Tesla has everyone excited about battery storage. Why should you care and how do you make money with a bunch of batteries. Peak Electrical Demand reduction is the play. Charge up the batteries overnite when the time of use (TOU) rates are low and intellegently discharge the batteries during periods of peak demand.
The first critical piece of equipment is a grid interactive converter (a two way inverter charger) of an appropriate power output (8KW - 1MW). The converter is connected to a bank of Lithium Ion batteries sized to provide 2 to 3 hours of peak runtime. This is all controlled by the demand control logic system which determines when to charge the batteries, and when to inject power for use by the facility.
